Next to being a student team, we are making a place for students to access space industry, technology and research more easily.
To do this, we want to create a place for students to talk space. We aim to push the limits and create the first (CubeSat) satellite that originated from the Eindhoven University of Technology
our current mission
Earth’s Atmospheric Radio Window is the range of radio frequencies that pass through the planet’s atmosphere and can be detected by grounded telescopes.
However, frequencies below 10 MHz can only be observed by orbiting telescopes. This is why ASTER is currently developing a radio telescope (in a CubeSat form factor) containing a 15-meter dipole antenna that will orbit the Earth.
This is a major steppingstone towards building project OLFAr – our Orbiting Low Frequency Array that will act as a single large radio telescope.
past achievements
At ASTER, we’ve successfully launched a prototype of our cubesat on a high-altitude balloon mission, reaching a height of 30 km. This was part of project Icarus
We are also currently in the testing phase of our ground station – the terrestrial radio station that will communicate with our radio telescope.
We have also collaborated with a space-propulsion-based student team VOID in developing project Aether-Sense – a compact, multi-functional sensor that is placed inside a reusable rocket. It measures various stresses during the rocket’s flight.
